transitions that Meles Zenawi and the likes want it to be discrete entities with no connections. Even though the
idea of citizenship created to suit the needs of the people, connections. Even though the idea of citizenship
created to suit the needs of the people, sometimes, the indigenous people wisely handled the intrusions of
governments. When foreign invaders attack, the people protect their territory as the land of the country and the
people are inseparable. In some periods of our history, as in the case of Meles Zenawi’s regime, the people have
been exposed to his unlimited power over their lives, values and property. What the Ethiopian people want is to
live freely in their ancestral land without forced eviction, denial of their inherent rights, absence of basic human
dignity and respect to their values and customes.

to their values and customes.

From Gambella all the way to Western Gondar, 1,600 km long strip of land, varying from 60 to 30 km in width, is
ceded to the Sudan by this dictatorial regime. The plan became vivid during the implementation of the agreement
when the Sudanese army crossed the border, imprisoned peaceful citizens, devastated property, and established
an alien government within our people.  The news of giveaway of this big chunk of land was known, in a whisper,
long time ago, when the first clandestine agreement was reached between Meles and Al Beshir.  The regime of
Meles sold out our land to quench his and his ethnocentric party’s petty desires---to rule with iron feast while
exploiting the wealth indefinitely. This is evident as the people have never been allowed to have the opportunity to
address and document their concern through a hearing in public forums and the parliament---the supreme ruler of
the country.
The leader of the ethno-fascist party, Meles Zenawi, along his right hand men--- Bereket Simon and Addisu
Legesse and others broke the silence of this huge scandalous deal with the Sudan after the people defended
their land, family, and property from the invasion of the Ethio-Sudanese army. Though he tried to deny the deals by
creating illusions, he finally accepted his ill-conceived performance as evidenced in the speech he delivered to
his puppet parliament. When the superiorly armed Sudanese military advanced further inland, the people took
defensive measures; thus, the enemy was made to retreat with heavy loses. It is still true that the Beshir
government in collaboration with Meles continues sporadic attacks against the peaceful Ethiopians within and
outside the territory of Ethiopia. Yet, the people continued their fighting determined to never bow down to the twin
enemies for they know that if they do, they will not rise up to their original self and dignity again.
At this juncture of our history, it became clear the Ethiopian people do not have a supreme sovereign government
that stands to secure their safety and interest. The Ethiopians know very well that Meles unilaterally made the
country to be landlocked for the first time in their thousands of years of history.  This corrupted tribal leader, who
has deep hatred to Ethiopia would leave a legacy that is will be remembered for fragmenting Ethiopia, bringing
economic destitution and man made starvation, rampant corruption, rape, authoritarian abuses, invasion, terror,
etc.
When I first heard the phrase “power and money corrupts,” I was very much doubtful how it can be able to do so,
but now it is clear to me by looking at the performance of Meles and his gangs. He lost the popular support due to
his doctrine of hatred spreading, and his sense of betrayal of the people and the country’s sovereignty. Because
of the escalating war between the people of Gondar and the Sudan, Woyanie’s army, out of frustration, engaged
itself in fighting back the invading Sudanese army. To me, this is a face saving act by the regime as it is
humiliated in front of the world with no hope of obscuring the hard facts. There is no more chance for the tyrant
dictator to win the love of the people. Their struggle to throw him to dust is intensified day by day. The people,
simultaneously, are fighting the two enemies boldly. Those who are still against the people’s struggle need to
reconsider their decisions at this crucial time of our history. We shall empower the people to be successful in any
wisdom, leadership skill, moral and technical support that we may provide. For instance, I felt so happy when
EPPF chose to be along the side of the people regardless of the severity and adversity of the conditions they are
going through together. How about the rest of us? Are we fetching in our drops of water to add up to the river in
the direction of its flow, or already chose to work out against the river’s unidirectional motion?
